“In European politics, it is often not easy to see when a line is crossed by stealth legislation. But now, with the Matić report on ‘sexual and reproductive health and rights’, which represents the most extreme left-wing radicalism, the European Parliament has come very close to crossing a line that could mean the end of the EU instead of its reform”, said Christian Democrat MEP György Hölvényi, commenting on the plenary debate and vote in two days’ time.

“We are fighting against the report on several fronts to prevent the EP from voting in favor of this text The draft report is also contrary to international and EU law” , the politician underlined.

The draft report seeks to interfere in the health and education policy of Member States. It is also a serious violation of human rights. It seeks to deprive doctors of the right to exercise their fundamental human right to choose to protect the human dignity of the foetus on grounds of religion or conscience.

The draft imposes a radical left-wing narrative of comprehensive sex education, in defiance of national competences. It is a clear violation of parental rights guaranteed by international treaties. Indeed, parents have the right of primacy to raise their children in accordance with their ethical, philosophical or religious convictions.

“With the debate less than two days away, it has to be made clear that we need to aim for a positive family-friendly policy rather than an ideological battle. We need to present a credible vision for the next generation that strengthens the culture of life and the family. Europe can only have a future this way”, said MEP György Hölvényi.
