In recognition of the work of the past two and a half years, MEP György Hölvényi was re-elected by his fellow MEPs as the Coordinator for the EPP Group in the Committee on Development.

The KDNP MEP said, “Despite all the controversies and obstacles, we managed to make it clear in the Committee that real assistance means the tackling of root causes of migration at the local level”. There has been a noticeable change in the perception of the role of religious organisations in development policy. He added: “One of the biggest challenges in foreign policy in the last few years has been to identify and prevent the causes of religious persecution, especially Christian persecution.”

Looking ahead, the politician said, “In the coming period, the promotion of the culture of direct, local assistance and a significant increase in educational cooperation will continue to be key areas”.

György Hölvényi, the Christian Democrat Member of the European Parliament, was re-elected as the EPP coordinator and professional responsible for the Development Committee (DEVE) by the EPP members in the renewal process of the European Parliament after two and a half years.
